Istanbul Edirne Railway Expected to Finish in 2024
Fri, Dec 16, 2022, 10:07:37 AMThe first step of the Halkalı-Kapıkule railway project which will connect Türkiye to the European countries is expected to be finished with Çerkezköy-Kapıkule line. The Çerkezköy-Kapıkule line started in June of 2019 and the track laying is still in progress. It is one of the most important projects of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and it is recorded that the 57 kilometers of the track laying is done and machine calibration process is in underway.
First Step is Expected to Finish in 2024
According to the statements of the governor of Edirne H. Kürşat Kırbıyık after he investigated the ongoing constructions, first step of the project is mostly done.
Kürşat Kırbıyık said that “Çerkezköy-Kapıkule line which includes Edirne section as well is set to be finished in 2024. There are 2 more steps to the rest of the project which are Halkalı-Ispartakule and Ispartakule-Çerkezköy lines. The auctions are completed and the contracts are being prepared.” He also stated that the with the completion of the project, travel times between Edirne and İstanbul will significantly decrease.
The Advantages of the Railway Project
Governor Kırbıyık stated that the future of Istanbul and Edirne will be positively influenced by the high-speed train line project. Explaining that as a Metropolitan city, the economy of Istanbul will benefit from the project, he said that “After the completion of the project, traveling between Beşiktaş to Edirne will be almost same as travelling between Beşiktaş and Tuzla.” and also said that the city should be prepared to the positive changes.
With the completion of the project Kırbıyık stated that natural beauty of Edirne will attract lots of tourists and it will boost the nature tourism. He said that “Edirne has a god given natural beauties and geography. It has unique historical and cultural values that can’t be seen anywhere else. This city has a lot of tourism potential.”
Reminding us the hospitability of Edirne which proved itself with variety of tourists from variety of cities and countries Kırbıyık stated that “I hope that the railway project will liven up the city and boost the economy of the Edirne.”
