Turkey's Cultural Heritage: Record-Breaking Visitors in Zeugma Mosaic Museum

Zeugma Mosaic Museum is famous for being one of the largest mosaic museums in the world. The museum was visited by 381 thousand 500 visitors in 10 months and reached the peak in the number of visitors before the end of the year.

Zeugma Mosaic Museum is established on an area of ​​thirty thousand square meters and located on the historical Silk Road in Gaziantep. The museum exhibits hundreds of worldly-famous artworks including the Gypsy Girl Mosaic, Mars Statue, Roman fountains, baths as well as mosaics found in villas by the Euphrates River.

The museum received the "Presidential Culture and Art Grand Award" and exhibited the Gypsy Girl Mosaic, in which 12 pieces of the mosaic were brought to Turkey from the United States in 2018. It broke the visitor record by hosting 340 thousand 569 people in 2019. It is important to note that 2019 was declared the Year of Göbeklitepe.

The Museum Broke Its All-Time Record!

Zeugma Mosaic Museum is one of the most visited attractions by local and foreign visitors in the region and it was visited by 2 million 21 thousand 853 visitors until 2021 since its establishment. The museum was visited by 381,500 visitors in the first 10 months of this year, and this is the record for the facility.

Gaziantep Museum Director Özgür Çomak emphasized that the museum is attracting too much attention since April. The museum was 340 thousand 569 people in 2019 and this was a record. He also noted that they believe the museum will be visited by more than 400,000 people until the end of the year.

The Museum Is Open at Night Too

Museum Director reminds us that Zeugma Mosaic Museum welcomes visitors until 22:00 in the summer season. This was possible with special permission from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and it significantly attracted more visitors.

He also notes that the museum is heavily visited by visitors from Europe, the Far East, and Scandinavian countries. Most Far Eastern visitors are from Japan, China, and Taiwan while most European visitors are from Germany and Italy.
