
Passenger Record in Istanbul Airports: Istanbul Airport Passengers Corresponds to 7% of European Air Traffic

According to the data of the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL), approximately 900 million passengers traveled across the continent last year, with a total of 6.2 million domestic and international flights.
Airports in Istanbul Became an Important Hub
In Europe, about 7 percent of all passengers flying in 2021 were based in Istanbul. This rate was recorded as 5 percent in the previous year. Istanbul and Sabiha Gokcen airports have significantly increased the number of passengers, demonstrating that they are a very important hub with statistics once again.
According to the information compiled from the data of the Turkish General Directorate of State Airports Authority, 10,590,203 passengers flew from Istanbul Airport on the domestic line and 26,586,306 passengers in total.
In 2021, 27 Million People Traveled on the Domestic Airline Routes
Atatürk Airport started to host private and cargo flights after the big move in April 2019. Last year, 62,145,270 passengers were accommodated at all airports in Istanbul, including 26,713,191 on domestic flights and 35,432,79 on international flights.
While 40,361,570 people traveled by air in the previous year, an increase of 54% was seen in Istanbul, with an increase of 21,783,700 passengers compared to last year.
Last year, 48 percent of the passengers who traveled from the airports in Turkey, i.e., 128,387,569 people were flown from Istanbul.
