2021: Year of records and challenges for Turkish Economy

While domestic markets participated in the global stock rally in the last quarter of the year, the BIST 100 index of Borsa Istanbul Stock Exchange. BIST 100 ranks in the top five among developed and developing country stock markets in terms of returns and completed the year with 1,857.65 with an increase of 25.8%.

The BIST 100 index in Borsa Istanbul completed the year with a return of 25.8 percent, with a strong attack in the last 3 months of 2021. Additionally, it exhibited one of the strongest performances in local currency among the global equity markets.

While domestic markets participated in the global stock rally in the last quarter of the year, the BIST 100 index, which ranks first among developed and developing country stock markets in terms of returns, finished 2021 at 1,857.65 points with an increase of 25.8 percent.

The Era of Records in Borsa Istanbul

While the BIST 100 index followed a horizontal course between March 23 and October 6, it increased by 75.5 percent until the peak on 17 December with the rally that started after the low level on 6 October.

While it was observed that BIST 30 shares, which had been stable for a long time, supported the rally in question, many records were broken in the BIST 100 index in 2021.

While the BIST 100 index increased its highest level record to 2,406.87, the total transaction volume record reached 77 billion Turkish liras.

While the BIST 100 index rose for three consecutive years for the first time since 2005, it broke a closing record 36 times in 2021.

Besides Ereğli Demir Çelik, which is one of the companies in the BIST 100 index, became the first Turkish company to reach a market value of 100 billion Turkish liras.

Borsa Istanbul Seems Promising in 2022 Too

Although 2021 was full of records for Borsa Istanbul, experts believe that 2022 will be much more successful for the BIST 100 Index. Current economic plans implemented by the Turkish government boosted the stock exchange.

Although 2022 will be a better year for Borsa Istanbul, all experts share the same opinion: 2023 will be the year of Borsa Istanbul.
